I started my journey with my spiritual practice at the age of 13 when I met my mentor. I have been learning healing practices as well as spiritual work as well.I am a devotee of La Santa Muerte but I also work with saints like La Virgen de Guadalupe.As you can tell by the name, I am a Chicana born here in the United States, but both my family and mentor are from Mexico. I have great respect and love for my country.

La Santa Muerte & La Virgen de Guadalupe Similarities and Differences

Many Devotees are devoted to both maternal figures. In many ways they get compared to each other as well.

La Virgen de Guadalupe is the most Iconic and recognized image in Mexico.
According to Tradtion for those who dont know
"According to tradition the Virgin Mary appeared four times before a native Mexican peasant named Juan Diego, and once before Juan Diego’s uncle. The first apparition occurred on the morning of December 9, 1531, when the Virgin spoke to Juan Diego in his native Nahuatl language and asked that a shrine be built in her name on the spot where she appeared — Tepeyac Hill, which is now a part of Villa de Guadalupe, a suburb of Mexico City.
Juan Diego told Bishop Juan de Zumárraga about the Virgin Mary’s appearance and request, but the bishop didn’t believe him and demanded a sign before he would approve construction of the church. The Virgin appeared twice more asking him to insist, but Juan Diego got busy taking care of his uncle who fell sick.
In the early morning of Tuesday, 12th December 1531, “La Virgen de Guadalupe” made her fourth appearance to Juan Diego, while he was looking for help for his sick uncle, and ordered him to collect roses, which were out of season, in his tilmátli, a kind of cloak made of cactus fibres. Juan took the roses to the bishop and when he opened his cloak, dozens of roses fell to the floor, revealing the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe imprinted on the inside. "
"However, there is a feminist and more modern version of Guadalupe's story. La Virgen de Guadalupe appeared in the sacred site of the Aztec goddess Tonantzin. The Natives called Tonantzin "Our Sacred Mother" . Even though the Spaniard priests had destroyed Tonantzin's temple, the goddess re-emerged as Guadalupe Tonantzin. Today, Latina feminists identify Guadalupe Tonantzin as the goddess of the Americas.
La Morenita is a sacred freedom fighter, the protector of the oppressed, the divine mother of the helpless, and the defender of the destitute. She is an empowering figure who stands for social justice. Furthermore, Guadalupe Tonantzin is the goddess of sex, life, and death."
People every year do a pilgrimage to her chapel in Tepayac Hill, near Mexico City, to pray and join the celebrations.
She is known to help with Marital problems, Fertility,The Protector of unborn children. She is considered a Patron Saint of Mexico. She is used in many "White Magic" Practices. She became a healing, empowering, and liberating symbol for the Mexican people.

La Santa Muerte being the second most recognized figure in Mexico right behind La Virgen de Guadalupe.
Seen a lot in movies, video games, shows as a Malevolent and cold force of Death. She is more than that and very mis understood. She is better known by her followers to heal sickness, finds employment, and helps alcoholics and drug addicts in their struggles for a better life. She offers her love and care to those who are not able to from others. They may have difficult and scary jobs and know their lives could be in danger in any moment pray to her. Others who have been called to her and devote their lives to her. She has her roots in Both Mexico as a possible Modern incarnation of Mictecacihuatl the Aztec Goddess of Death as well as recently found about possible roots to a Spanish Grim Reaper sort that was mixed with her. She like many others is a mix of Native and Colonized history.
She is an all purpose Goddess ❤ For Love, Money, Fertility, Protection.

Main Differences is of course one is more seen about life and a catholic Patron Saint while the other is seen about death and condemned by the Catholic church.
For me Personally in my family we see them as almost sisters. Both with you through your live protecting you until its your time. When you leave with one and go with the other.

Shadow Work

Now what is Shadow work Exactly?
Shadow work is when you work with your subconscious, your Shadow side. Everyone has a “Light” Energy and a “Shadow” Energy. The Shadow energy has a tendency to be the side of you that you suppress and hide. Shadow energy is not a positive or negative energy. Many times its more of a not so pleasant part of ourselves. When you work with this energy you heal and are able to access more of yourself.If you believe in past lives there are past trauma and fears that can follow to the next. Each soul has an essence that makes them “Them” their traits, desires, and talents hidden or not. Something that can change that is the “Nature vs. Nurture” There are things we naturally have that through society constructs and family that we suppress. If you notice many children are much better at picking up supernatural beings and events.
When we grow we many times are told its not real or fake and for attention so our brains slowly close that. Our third eye many times closes during the formative years.
This is how people talk about later on being “spiritually awoken” because they wake back up. Another good example is being naturally a leader and bold and being told by society and family that you need to behave and obey.

The Fears, Doubts and Anxiety you have.Things you have been conditioned to learn that may not really be true.Step One:What is your trigger?
We many times learn to suppress our true selves because of family, friends, and society itself. You need to in time see what your “trigger” is and go against it. Think of what makes you upset and why.For instance I used to get really upset when friends would cancel last minute or not even tell me and stood me up. I would get upset and cry from frustration. So many times of this happening I would try to numb myself instead of reacting which is also not good.Step Two: Let Your Emotions out.
You want to see what the core issue is and for me it was feeling like I wasn’t important enough or good enough for them. How I was replaceable and in the end what I was scared the most was being abandoned. I started to work with myself and focus on the positive. I started to make second plans just in case and not feel upset about it. Trimming those friendships myself over time.Step Three: Write it Down.
Journaling/Writing or even making video vlogs will help you see how you've grown when you started your shadow work. This helps you figure out WHY the things that trigger you, trigger you. Think back to your childhood and see what made that become an issue. Writing or saying it outloud from the most recent trigger to the farthest you can remember. Sometimes your emotions will get the better of you during this. THAT’S OK!
Think about that first time you got upset and hurt. Don’t hold back your emotions on it. If you have the need to scream, scream it out. Feel like needing to hit or cut something, write all your emotions down and rip that paper to shreds.TIPS Something important to set up before this is After Care- Its good to have a tea, snack, blanket and a bath afterwards to let your body calm down. Many times over your body can hold these emotions for years and be tense and after shadow work feel sore and tired.Step Four: Time to heal
As I said earlier the way I tried to heal was to see the people I thought were friends were not really friends. I started to be myself and if people didn’t like it, fuck them. Making new friends who knew me for my true self and also not putting the importance of people so high like before helped over time. Making backup plans in case helps so I don’t feel like my time was wasted. Or even having that cancelled day a “me day”
Instead of thinking “My friends didn’t show because I’m unwanted.”, a new thought process could be, “It was rude of my friends to stand me up, and I deserve better. This person’s behavior has nothing to do with me at all.”Remember, controlling your feelings is not the objective. Your feelings are your subconscious communicating with you and these signals are valuable information! You can, however, control your reactions by simply changing your story to something more constructive.Step Five: Thank the Universe/ Your Higher Self
Once these triggers are gone or less than they were before you’ll slowly see your vibrations and energy are higher. Never let anyone tell you shadow work will lower that. The emotional and spiritual hurt you had inside you was affecting your energy. Shadow Work will help clear it up and open a new door to your strengths.A Few Notes
Shadow work can be very intense if you have more trauma as a child or even ancestral trauma. Many of us will have ancestral trauma from our ancestors losing their lives and land or being taken from their lands. The Torture they had and more. If you begin shadow work and feel like its too much, think about possibly talking to a therapist about it or a holistic healer.There are mainly TWO types of Shadows: The Dark Shadow- that is everything “bad” about us. Our anger, frustrations, envy, and hatred. The Golden Shadow- are all the good things we repress. Talents, skills people told us were not important or good enough.The Main part about shadow work is going into your deepest thoughts, what motivates you, and your actions.
These are subjects that will always be in the back of your mind but with change will have a new stronger meaning.Shadow work is something you want to do for a week or so or only a few days at a time. Mainly because it's tiresome. Best times are when the Veil is thin.
Do not force yourself. It should be of relief and letting things go. Most of all to forgive yourself.

What is Grounding and different forms to ground yourself

The purpose of grounding and centering is to stabilize your energy, draw energy from the Earth, and to bring yourself to a positive state of being. This can be done before and after ritual, or anytime you are feeling upset and need a pick-me-up.
Many think this is something that many people think they HAVE to meditate. There are SOOO many other ways.
The more traditional way is to sit or stand with yourself firmly planted on the ground.Breathing deeply and slowly, Imagine you have roots coming from your feet if that reach deep into the Earth. Visualize any negative energy flowing down through your roots into the Earth where the energy becomes neutral. Then you can visualize clean, healing Earth energy coming up through your roots and into your body. Once you feel your energy is stable and you are in a positive state of being, you may stop.
The reason this is important is like an energy recharge. Think of yourself as a car. If your battery isn't grounded you wouldnt start. You need to care for your self. Self care is grounding.

What is Religious Synchronization?

Many people wonder “What happened to the Meso American Gods? Let me tell you, They went underground. Many of the more commonly known Gods were synchronized (Religious syncretism is the blending of two or more religious belief systems into a new system, or the incorporation into a religious tradition of beliefs from unrelated traditions.)
This pretty much means many of the Saints we know in our Catholic beliefs were used as a cover for the Gods. Their images and names were used in place of the Gods' names in public. Many of the old practices changed enough to fit the Catholic mold.Now because of this over time some of the practices and meanings behind them were lost BUT not totally forgotten. Some people believe that because of this the Gods have gone out of praise.. This is FAR from the truth. Many of the Meso-American Gods are still worked with and with recent events going on ( The Pandemic being one that is a large cosmic push) has started the spiritual awakening for many, Its become very evident that the Meso-American Gods are “waking and rising up again”Many people are starting to have Gods and Goddesses come up in readings, Their energy and power coming through.

Now WHY did Religious Synchronization happen?

To put this pretty simple the reason this happened was that the Indigenous people of the Mesoamericas were forced to either convert or be killed. Some stories were also changed to fit the mold of Christianity again take what happened with the Virgen De Guadalupe and her story of her and Juan Diego. The location she was found actually was where the temple of Toci Tonantzin where later on the Spaniards tore it down.
Some who did not want to let go of their beliefs mixed the two religions together or the Catholics did it. This is also why its hard to find information of the Gods since many stories have been mixed and changed because of the colonization.
